So, the demand to stop offensives by Karunanidhi paid the dividends and Sri Lanka has stopped its march. They are saying that it is due to end of resistance by LTTE. My only question for Indian Tamil leaders (and all of them) is that how they can interfere and ask Indian government to interfere in internal matters of SL?
India has always advocated the principle of territorial sovereignty. Departure from this policy might create problems in foreign affairs in the future.
The only reason that I can think of for this whole drama is vote bank politics.
First, do you know how arrogant the srilankan govt is against Tamil (ealam) people there? lots are dying everyday which are hidden desperately.
Some people may think this is internal problem of a country....... why we should worry about?
Definitely we should worry because, when innocent people are killed by their own government any where in the world, as a human being with some humanity.
We should raise a voice against genocide. If it is an internal problem or war means why we studied about Hitler in our history book. The Aim is the future generation should not repeat the same mistake again.
In fact, I accept that there is also drama going for vote bank in TN reg this issue.
We all know that French govt banned using turban by Sikhs. that is also somehow internal matter of France but Manmohan Singh is approaching France for this issue.
If Turban is more important than life of some people then i can't say anything else.
Thanks,
Viyas
Ram, we share your sentiments on the tamil crisis. As fellow humans its our responsiblity to feel for humans across the globe. But the point is whether we should actively interfere and if yes on what grounds. My take is - we should view this purely as a humanitarian crisis and restrict our interference to that only. All of us feel the pain of tamil people in SL but by actively interfering in internal matters of an independent and soverign country only raises doubts on our foreign policy. In addition to this it also give fire to other nations to do the same wrt India namely China and Pakistan in Sikkim, Arunachal and Kashmir - though the situation may not be same in those parts. But excuse is always an excuse. The best we can do is deploy relief work, send medicines, food supplies and paramedics. To the extreme put diplomatic pressure on SL and get assurance on no civilan caualities. The Manamohan example does not hold cos that may be his compulsion to hold on to a certain votebank. Two wrongs dont make a right.
If India respects territorial sovereignty of Sri Lanka what is the Indian army doing in Sri Lanka right now fighting Tamils? More importantly why did India provide arms and military assistance to encourage ethnic cleansing? Indian leaders have already admitted that they have been sending military assistance only after evidence is presented all over the world. India must be open and honest with its own people instead of relying on news black out which is an ancient practice that does not work in the current world with advanced information technology. India has a lot to offer to the world based on its rich ancient history and yet makes blunders that may create another Kashmir in Tamil Nadu. I would rather see India solving problems in the neighbouring countries and gaining respect instead of becoming part of the problem.
