You can feel it in air, sense it in atmosphere and hear it on streets, ELECTIONS ARE COMING. The great Indian people are once more excited about the prospects of freedom they enjoy (or at least they think, they enjoy 
) to choose their representative for the highest body of country. As a political blog Promise of Reason will bring to you pre-poll predictions in next whole month.

It is in our blood to speculate and argue with or without the facts on matters of importance, irrespective of our region, religion, caste, class or whatever that may divide us. The most bonding nature of India is its argumentativeness and love for speculations. So, here I am once again to predict the possible outcome of general election 2009. I wrote a prediction for election last summers, when Manmohan Singh government was facing no-confidence motion after left pulled their support. At that time it was a mere fun process for me, but the response of readers of this blog has prompted me to do this pre-poll prediction very seriously. So, be it, now when elections are just around the corner, I shall post prediction for one state at a time with as detail as possible analysis.
Disclaimers:
- I want to mention for legal reasons that this is my predictions, not pre-poll survey, so no violation of code of conduct for media.
- I am a neutral blogger. Though the readers of this blog are tilted towards NDA a bit, as the case with whole upper-middle class Indians, who follow online news.
- I invite all Indians and interested people to comment on these posts and share them with their friends, but thoughts expressed by any reader of blog are his/her own and Promise of Reason does not have responsibility for it what-so-ever.
The schedule of election is with us, as in map. Parties are trying to form alliances in this coalition era. We all know that no party can get majority on its own. The importance of regional parties is at its all time high status. (This is deepening of democracy, by the way, and I am damn happy that Indian democracy is finding its root) So, a rigorous phase of coalition formation is going on.
NDA, UPA, and a loose third front are competitors, with each of them trying to woo as many parties in its fold as possible. Though final picture is emerging slowly, we cannot be sure of anything till results come out. There might be last minute tie-ups, break-downs, unofficial partnerships, dissidents, under currents and acts of treason in next month or two. So, wait and watch, to have fun – speculate, share your opinion, bring your friends over here and discuss!

In Kerala, it is most likely to be Advantage UDF(UPA at National Level). The JD(S), Erstwhile Ally of The Ruling LDF in Kerala Ended it’s Honeymoon with LDF and has filed for Divorce over Seat sharing where CPI(M) has shown high handedness and has even irritated CPI. The Kerala unit of
JD(S)is in crisis as it is moving towards UDF against the Wishes of Deve Gowda.
Further,LDF is miffed with infighting between
V S Achutannandan and Pinayari Vijayan Camps of CPI(M. The Kerala High Court Indicting the LDF of Shielding islamic Fundamentalists will add to LDF’s Troubles. In Addition there is Anti-Incumbency against The LDF in The state.
Therefore, LDF is at it’s Weakest Ebb in Kerala this time.
It would be A Clean Sweep for UDF.
As far as BJP is concerned : Kasargod is one constituency, where BJP has High Chances.

Lot of experts feel that there is a huge anti-LDF wave is sweeping Kerala and hence UDF would would get around 18-19 seats (Similar to LDF in 2004). But the reality is that BJP is the spoiler for UDF in kerala. In about 7-8 constituencies like Trivandrum, Kannur, Ernakulam BJP has its vote share in double digits. Infact in Palagad they have a voteshare of 18%. The BJP will hurt the INC in all these constituencies. Hence UDF cannot clean sweep the state.
PDP a fundamental organisation has now thrown weight behind CPM and hence they would compensate for IUML (part of UDF). It is the churches that will give constituencies like Trissur to UDF.

But, Kerala BJP has a dubious Distinction of Supporting UDF over LDF. It is One State, where BJP Has Very Good Organizational Strength and is Highly Visible, but, in Electoral Politics, comes A Distant Third.
In Palakkad, BJP is likely to Vote for UDF to ensure The Defeat of LDF as Palakkad Muncipality is being run by BJP with UDF’s Support.
The same in Kannur. This is The Home District of CPI(M)’s state Secreatary, Pinayari Vijayan who has been creating Ruckus by joining hands with pdp to Kill RSS and BJP Activists. As BJP cant Win Kannur, here, BJP would vote Tactically to ensure The Defeat of CPI(M)/LDF Candidate.
Kasargod is One seat where BJP might like to take the battle on it’s own against LDF.
In Tiruvananthapuram(Trivandrum), BJP has fielded P K Krishnadas instead of O Rajagopal due to inner party Fued. BJP has certainly lost the battle in Trivandrum even before The Election Campaign started here by Choosing A Weak Candidate. PKK derives Streength Only from Organization and Is NOT A Mass Leader unlike O Rajagopal.

This time may be India’s election can come up with a party with a simple majority because in last few elections it has not been the case and electorate is increasingly divided across the country. This trend if to continue will result in slowed growth and difficulty in decision making process on important issues.

Swami Vivekananda rightly described Kerala as a lunatic asylum by witnessing the caste system and internal feud among People. Things are worse now. The most unprincipled Communists has joined with the terror organization PDP , and the Congress with the Muslim league. Bjp on the otherhand could never influence the youth of the state like in Gujarat , MP. or even like in Karnataka. They are fighting among themselves even without an MLA seat. Hence the state is in a precarious state of affairs. One principled Leader Achuthanandan is never allowed to function smoothlyby His rival Pinarayi Vijayan.As far as the congress is concerned The exit of A.K. anthony fromstate politixcs and the fall of Karunakaran made the party a paper party. I pray almighty to save this state by a young generation who are sensible ,broadminded, rationale , non religious and non seudo secular.

If the congress wins in A.P it will win…….from the history perspective if congress can win in A.p it will win in parliament too. BJP has no strength in A.p except for karnataka. It losing strength in rajasthan and U.P. Congress to lost key allies in bihar and u.p. people like sharad pawar,nitish and chdrababu are like cats on wall, they change their will according to circumstances.
If BJP can keep strong in its ruling states and break some regions away from congress in south it has chances, meanwhile congress sustains to hold it allies in u.p, bihar

Ravi, in The First Place, None can say anything about AP.
All Surveys will Prove Wrong in AP. And the media houses are purposely belittling BJP in Telangana.
But, Everyone Knows that in Telangana, BJP has Good Presence and Particularly in Secunderabad, Malkajigiri and Chevella, BJP will Win.
Congress would be Wiped out in Telangana and except for a few Lok Sabha Seats in Rayalaseema and southern coastal Districts(Largely Because, the opposition isnt strong here), congress would make a clean sweep.
The Only Possitive for congress is that, PRP has lost credibility and TDP is confusing the voters on various schemes as it lacks clarity.

KERALA.
In 2004 people voted out Congress just because they were fed up with the internal fights in the party controlling the ruling government in the State.
It is no different with the Communists this time. They think Madni factor would give some edge in malabar area. Now there is no ‘Madany sympathy’ wave. It is more like people are scared of Madani out of jail and surely it would boomerang against the CPI(M).
This time it would not be BJP selling teir votes to UPA,but they casting their votes to make sure a flat defeat of their enemy Number One who is tied up with Madani faction of their rival community.
The left might still get hold of their bastions to end up for a 4 or 5 seats.

I really appreciate this web site to allow user to published their views. predicitons may differ according to theh personell choice but people have to be diginifed in selecting the governement in the center, state or local. there should not be a communal thinking, the national thinking must be first preference and most important a dedicated and correct person to there to rule the governences. i hope some day a proper and educated highly qualified persons may get the tickets to select for this nobel roles.

Yes u r true leader ship problem is there in congress. Sonia Gandhi is not willing to take the responsibility and rahul still too young and need experience for the nobel post. even Manmohan singh is a gentle person but the powers are shared between the senior leaders. i prefer Manmohan sigh to get full authority and he can handle the duties. We all know he is one of the best finance minister of India and can supervise other economic situation easily. But even thoug congress has to improve a lot and recruit highly qualified and dedicated persons with no criminal back ground.

It is Congress which is going to win in AP. Dr. YSR has done more than all the CMs together has done. No other CM has the guts to undertake the massive developmental projects, he did in every sector like major irrigation to give to crores of acres of land, millions of homes for poor, Arogyasree to help the poor in ill health,108,pension to the old, poor and needy, free education to the poor… to name a few.

Tytler issue, Gulam Nabi’s brother joining BJP, small but an alliance in Tamil Nadu, retired defense personnel supporting BJP openly, first time they ever did it. Guys!!!! Attention Please!!! Don’t you all think you all are wasting your time and energy in some topic which is not within your reach? Now India is no more new to election and the voters are well aware of the fact that no political parties or the Leaders are for the public. If they are doing something for Public (i.e. Construction of a Road, Hospital or School/College etc. etc.), they have their hidden Goal against it. It may be Indian national Congress(INC), Bharatya Janata Party(BJP), NCP, CPI, CPI(M), RJD, LJP, SP, BSP, DMK, AIADMK, MDMK (u name it).. all these parties are not for Public but for themselves. Have you all noticed the declaration of Assets/Cash (never true figures) of each leader while submission of Nomination? Just notice the figure increments in next election? What is the pay and Allowances of these Member of Parliament? How these Members gathers so much of Money and assets withing Five years? What the Income Tax Department is doing against it? Why they are not questioned what is their source of income along with their family members?” Where do they got their seed money to start business? What were their mortgages if taken loan? Where they earn these mortgages? What is their annual balance sheet from the time they first contested in General election? Can any one answer these? SO NO POINT breaking your head on these points as no voters or Leaders will listen to you guys… Sorry for being a little hush!!!

Dear SHANTHESH.. I know there shall be a ,massive changes in the present political system. People shall go for the candidates instead of the party. The Contender shall have minimum educational qualification apart from practical experiences. The candidates shall appear in public interviews in respect of proving their abilities to sit as an Minister of Member of Parliament. The Income Tax, Central Vigilance and Central Bureau of Investigation department shall be made independent and the Ministry shall not have any kind of Control on them as Election Commission of India. There shall be a massive investigation on properties and Money of the contender of Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha Members before declaring fit. The President shall be empowered to control these independent departments directly. The Presidential/Vice President and Governors post shall be made from non political background. If these are feasible than I can see light behind the absolute darkness. Yes, questioning about me joining the system is open but there shall be a few exercise to be made before that to motivate people and the system. If YES there shall be many like minded people who want global development instead of personal development as now.

As time goes by, it looks like UPA is having more of a slight edge over BJP. And with Modi being named in the SIT prove, BJP migth end with less than 100 seats. Also SAD in Punjab are facing problems, and BJP have lost more allies than Congress in the pre poll drama.
Overall, I know from my Muslim friends that they will readily vote for NDA because of the pro-development agenda but NDA and BJP in particular will have to drop its Hindu Taliban outlook. They have to be Indians first and Hindus second. Only then can BJP form government. I’m afraid BJP has missed the boat this time

I don’t understand why BJP supporters are always labelled as hardcore fundamentalist Hindus, when on the contrary many of its young, urban, well educated, middle class backers like me are atheists. With barely a few days left for the fourth phase of elections to be held, there do not seem to be any clear winners in the 15th Lok Sabha polls. This is the most issueless election ever and both the Congress and the BJP have not been able to set any agenda. Both seem to be contesting , as others are doing, in a political vaccum. This explains why regional parties have already started flexing their muscles and are certainly going to play a major part in the formation of the next government.
The BJP, which, at one time, found it difficult to cross the three-figure mark, has done reasonably well in the first three phases and is certainly past the century mark. Many analysts also believe that at the end of the third stage it could even lead the pack. But it is the fourth phase, which is crucial for the Congress. If it is able to win or retain seats already in its kitty, it should have no problem in emerging as the single largest party.
The number one slot has become important since whoever gets the maximum seats will have more options open to it than the others. For instance, the party that comes out on top will certainly be in a position to be the first to be invited to form the government. The party shall always have the option of either sitting in the opposition knowing well that the stability of the next government may always be in doubt. The largest party similarly may also determine which regional leader or party should lead the government if it decides to support the government from outside.
The likely scenario emerging after three phases also has given ample indication that it will be increasingly difficult for either Dr Manmohan Singh or Mr L.K.Advani to lead the next government. Though nothing can be said with finality in politics, things seem to be moving in this direction.
The BJP is apparently the first party to acknowledge the difficulties in Advani becoming the next Prime Minister. The suggestion by Arun Shourie, Arun Jaitley and Yashwant Sinha that Narendra Modi could be a possible PM nominee in the post- Advani set-up is not without significance. The suggestion shows the anxiety of these leaders over the fate of the BJP and Advani in the post-poll scenario. It also indicates that the uncertainty over the BJP assuming the leading role has given way to a power struggle within the saffron brigade.
Sushma Swaraj, another leading BJP leader was the first to criticise her own colleagues for bringing up Modi’s name while the contest was still on. She cited Hindu scriptures and traditions and said that sons do not participate in Rasam Pagri when the father is still around. She, in effect, lashed out at the supporters of Modi for the top position. Even Venkaiah Naidu, whose own disillusionment with the way things are happening within the BJP, has increasingly distanced himself from any suggestions regarding Modi being made the top BJP boss. Rajnath Singh whose seat is being hotly contested also chose not to give any credence to the Modi brigade.
What is happening in the BJP is also the result of the reshuffle within the RSS where Mohan Bhagwat, a stickler for ideology, has taken over. He is allergic to Advani and some of those who are today trying to prop up Modi. His opinion about Modi may be favorable but he certainly wants to bring about a change within the BJP with some others in mind. He has been able to contain the ABVP lobby within the RSS and is now set to assert himself in the post-poll scenario. It is on his instructions that the RSS cadres are working hard for the BJP nominees even in constituencies like East Delhi where the Congress appears to be in a strong position till date.
The Congress is banking on the fourth and fifth phase to give it the number one slot. But it is also equally worried about the final result. Poor poll management has jeopardised the party’s chances in many constituencies. But, despite that, it hopes to cross or equal its 2004 score of 145 seats. The party has not changed its position regarding the prime ministerial candidate as yet. But post-poll compulsions may compel it to adopt a different strategy.
The Congress managers know that if the Congress and the BJP add up to over 272, the halfway mark, then no government can be formed at the Centre without the participation or support of either of the two parties regardless of the understanding amongst regional players.
The game is wide open as of now and in this lacklustre and issueless election, the outcome may be full of surprises for the big two if they are unable to assess the ground realities and act accordingly. The 15th Lok Sabha will be short-lived unless there is a convergence of interests among some regional parties.

ManojK: To an ordinary person you may seem to be an offensive hardliner fascist, but people like me can easily understand and share your desperate concerns – dynasty imperialism, media control (by Christian and Communist organizations), Islamic fundamentalism (taking due advantage of our secular, tolerant and patient cultural ethos), Christian missionary propaganda (‘Jesus is real, Ram was fake’ – instead of saying both are real/ imaginary), corruption (black money in Swiss accounts), etc. I voted this 30th April for the 1st time in my life (travelling 500 kms. to do that) because as an Indian I really want to put an end to all this mediocrity, fear, regressiveness and procrastination.
I predicted 134 for the BJP on a popular site, where it’s difficult to actually know what are you doing until you get the final numbers. I’m hopeful that youngsters like me who want a serious change will do their bit, along with the rest of sensible concerned Indians, to place BJP at its rightful position.

First, I don’t really care about religion. Every one practice what they want as long as Church does not decide who you should vote or priest does not decide whom you should not vote or Imam does not decide who you should vote. All people should have same rights: Not one law for each religion or caste. You can’t have laws that gives full independence to Church to do whatever it wants to do with the funds they raise but all the Hindu temples should give all the money to Govt. You can’t have one religion practice polygamy different from constitution.
Second, I want a Govt. with long term vision for India not just some welfare programs to keep poor people poor all the time. For 50+ years, COngress followed the policies of giving bread crumbs to poor and make them rely on Govt. for ever. For the first time, I realized what PVNR and Vajpayee did with reforms. I was sold on BJP’s vision of Golden Quadrilateral. I was also sold on BJP’s vision of River Linking. Both these long term ideas were dumped by CON party since it does not make sense to promote the DYNASTY. I know a lot of people look for short term and hence BJP will be forced to play some short term welfare measure. But I hope they keep long term vision: Water, Roads, Clean Electricity and create an environment where people can create opportunities.

Maybe 60+ for BSP is a bit of an over statement, but I won’t be surprised if it makes it to 45-50. It might have not delivered fully in my UP, but here the people (the rural, backward classes and urban low income masses) still perceive it as a better alternative to SP and the other perception is that it’s better to vote for a party which is more likely to gain majority or win than to vote for hardly-likely-to-win Congress and BJP. Then, one must also take into account the in-roads that BSP has build last couple of years into Maharashtra and maybe Haryana or Punjab. She can count on all the Dalits in these states and be hopeful of other backward, economically weak castes. Caste politics is the essence of her party which can work wonders in a country like India.

Someone also said that UP upper castes may support BSP on state level elections for their immediate interests, but on the national level, they’d rather have a party with deeper and wider agendas, programmes and concerns.

In Rajastan BJP will get around 15 & INC around 9. Because there the poll turn out is 15% less compared with last Assembly elections. And in many places this time Muslim comunity, which is a strong supporter for INC is away from the voting. It indicates that BJP can retain many seats contrary to analysts expectations. And one more reason for congress not to perform well in this state is that it has failed to give the tickets to right aspirants.

I have been able to keep up with the news from Tamil Nadu. If people in Tamil nadu follow logic to weed out the fabrications from facts, AIADMK alliance will get 38 seats. Otherwise AIADMK alliance will get about 33. The main issue is Sri Lanka–the one many politicians in India refuse to acknowloedge, discuss or resolve. India has already made its biggest mistake of being against Tamils and paving the way for another Kashmir in the South and loosing Sri lanka to China. What a stupid foreign policy implemented by stupid politicians in Congress-DMK. I feel sorry for Indian people who would be affected by its politicians dumb moves for many many years.

I agree with Raj, Congress winning in Harayana and Delhi is a media story doing rounds.
There was no survey or opinion poll, just that media gave its opinion.
Harayana, the law and order situation is so bad that Police is refusing to register cases against goons, recent suicide of rape victim.

Good to see some responses from all over. Dont know who will form the government,but definitely BJP will be the single largest party in the upcoming elections. Since I am from chennai, I would like to say DMK and their alliance will get 15 seats, AIADMK will get 23-24 seats, BJP will get 1-2 seats(Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram constituency). But there is no strong wave against DMK but they have failed to save the Tamil peoples. This will going to be the reason for the failure of UPA in Tamilnadu..

We can not conclude anything based on media report, because it seems that all media (NDTV and CNN-IBN) are working for congress to confuse or to collapse INDIA. I hope BJP will come again to power.
Why BJP shoud come to power?
1. BJP is the one political party will save India image worldwide.
2. BJP is the party, only can take decision for India’s good will.
3. BJP is the only party can bring up common civil law and make every one to think as Indian rather than relegion wise.
4. BJP is the only party having good forecast, good vision about india.

There is no wave in Tamil except the heat wave ( read as hate wave) sweeping country. People have no love lost against the premier regional parties DMK and AIADMK along with the National Party Congress for turning a blind eye towards the genocide of tamils in Sri lanka. DMK has only expressed lip-sympathy for Sri Lankan tamils for the fear for embarassing its big brother in centre-Congress. This is indeed a far-cry from ideology of the party which was formed to create dravida nadu. The most surprising “breaking news” from Rajdeep is that the DMK front will sweep TN. Such a result is possible only if the DMK were to be able to rig in a big way. The very high polling percentage does raise eyebrows as it would seem very unlikely given that it is a national election and also held during one of the hottest days and in the hottest periods. Usually higher voter turn out is for voting out the incumbent and not otherwise. We have to wait another 12 hours to get to have a clearer picture.

BJP should seriously consider expanding its presence in A.P. This state has all the elements that suit to rebuild BJP. TDP is in shatters. PRP is a no show. Activate the cadre throughout the state. Votes polled is around 3.75% this time. Concentrate on telangana areas. TRS has lost credibility among the electorate. Highlight the problems faced by common people especially roads, water and electricity. Let the electorate know about the river linking and Infrastructure solutions . Work with people. Expand media presence both in print and tv. Rope in celebrities to instantly raise the vote share. Most NRI’s are sympathetic to the BJP. Top BJP brass should organise world tours and collect sufficient funds. Publicize the visit well ahead. This is the time to look at new avenues. BJP’s expansion will be a work in progress for next 20 years. Aim for atleast 15 seats next time from A.P.

Like you said the positives for the nation are that the utter regional biased demands of thses smaller parties will be largely reduced. The extreme anti BJPism practised by many parties also opposded to Congress has actually helped the Congress and they may have to reorient their outlook to the BJP.
The BJP has over 100 seats and will have to perform the role of the principal opposition unlike last time when the left although supporting the Govt. appeared to be the main opposition party.

I dont understand why we are focussing our energies on discrediting the EVMs when no other party has done that. The EVMs run on assemble language (impossible to tamper) and has gone testing for more than 10 years. So the results are more accurate than they would have been on paper ballot which is easier to manipulate.
The fact is that Congress not just because muslims wanted it to win, but because Hindus, brahmins and dalits and others wanted it to win as well. Even the Bihar results show that almost 15 seats the NDA won because of vote split between Congress, RJD-SP, BSP and independants. If we don’t realise that that being hardline like BJP does not equal natinalism for it to come back, then forget about it.
By the way, I want Afzal and Kasab to be hanged alongside Purohit, all of them are in the same category. But Kasab and Afzal are pakistanis, I expect them to be crazy, what excuse did Purohit have to kill fellow Indians? He has tarnished our Army’s image which is the greatest in the world

For the record, I voted for BJP. I don’t like Congress. And what I want is all BJP supoprters to think with you head.

Kasab has also not been “convited” by any court. His tiral is ongoing, but that doesn’t stop me from knowing he is guilty. Same for ex-Lt Purohit. The only difference is Kasab’s trial is being done more quikly but Purohit is being delayed as its more “sensitive”.
Bottomline, we should understand that Muslim, Christians e.t.c make up only 15-20%. So there is no way that they are only responsible for bringing Congress to power. Hindus voted for them in larger numbers and that is what we must understand.

I agree it might not be impossible to tamper Indian EVMs. But they are mich better than any American EVMs. We must be proud of them as they are a testament to Indian scientists and how smart they are.
Example, the Americans spent millions of dollars to develop a pen that would write in space, the Russians used a pencil.
Similarly, the Indians have developed EVMs that are cheaper, more secure, and more robust than American EVMs. We can be proud of these EVMs even if you are a BJP supporter, nothing wrong with that.

It is quite possible that the Indian EVM is much better than the American. But that is not the point. The source code that drives the EVM should be put out in the open. Then security professionals can examine it for any flaws, test that the code that is put out by the Election Commission is the one that is inside the EVMs and suggest corrections that may be necessary (as a computer engineer, I can tell you almost every code can be broken in general – you can only make it more and more difficult to break). Also, there should be a set of standard tests that can be run at the beginning of the voting (let us say all polling officers and party agents arrive half an hour before the polling starts) and at the end of the voting and ensure that the EVM is functioning properly. Again, all this would make it more difficult to break and tamper, but it would not eliminate the possibility of breaking or tampering with the EVM.

Kasab was caught red handed, actually committing the crime. There are eyewitnesses in the case of Kasab. In contrast, in the case of Purohit, we only have the accusations of the ATS. No witnesses have yet been produced in court. If and when they are produced and the evidence proves Purohit guilty, only then should action against him be contemplated.

EVMs have been tested by independant scientists and academics. Ofcourse there is more room for improvement as there always will be. But I don’t think they shoudl go compeltely open source as this is Intellectual property of Indian scientists and should no be given away for free.

Let it be very clear my dear friends. India is a Hindu country. These damn politicians cannot take us for a ride in the name of secularism. As secularism is non-existant it is myth. No country in this world can call itself as secular, everywhere the majority rule. India is only pathetic country where majority is treated like dogs by its politicians. They are not even allowed to voice their anger against the injustice meted out by barbaric jihadis. Anybody daring to do so is put inside the jail like a terrorist. Ask Varun Gandhi.
Why do these politicians treat us like this? It is not without rhyme and reason. The minority appeasement of political parties is done because muslims vote en block. A word from the mosque would make the entire muslim community vote for a particular party.
We hindus are divided lot. We cast our vote on the basis of castes, languages, ethinic affinities and what not. The first and foremost thought in our mind should be that we are Hindus and Hinduism is in great danger. Therefore, we should vote collectively for any party espousing the cause of Hinduism. In democracy only vote maatters. We cannot cry foul when we ourself are ruining our cause. First of all, the religious sentiment in us should become stronger. There should be one religious apex body for hindus and we should follow their command. Just see how Muslims (jamaat), christians (church), Sikhs (akhal takt) go by the words of their religious heads. Only then we can forge a unity among us and be counted in this vote bank politics.
Once that happens all the political parties worth its name would lick the feet of Hindus.

No one is making money from the *software* of the EVMs. It is part of the chip itself, so one cannot simply transplant the code elsewhere. Secondly, it is a fallacy to believe that the authors lose control after they release it under an open source licence. The authors still hold the copyrights. If there are any truly new ideas there, they should file for patents. That way, they can hold the IP rights while still releasing the code under open source. Any software, especially one as important as that running EVMs should be examined by everyone capable, not just some independent experts. Finally, it is government (and university) policy world over to release what their scientists do under open source licence. The funding for the scientists comes from the pocket of the taxpayer and any benefits should go back to the taxpayer.
As for Purohit, what is given in the article you suggested is merely what the ATS asserts. We have no access to what Purohit’s defence says. Until we have heard both sides, it is wrong to condemn Purohit. I will fully support any punishment prescribed by the court if he is found guilty, but until then, I choose to reserve judgement. Many men have been accused wrongly in the past, and one sided assertions should be taken with a grain of salt.
