Is rape an act of sexual aggregation or lust? None. It is an act of disgracing the conquered. An act of revenge. The perpetrator is not looking for sex. He is looking for his revenge. Rape is the final and most brutal assault one can make on the conquered.
He is looking to disgrace the other because he understands raping a woman would completely shatter her – her self esteem, her chastity, HER. Leave revenge against a woman. Raping a sister, a daughter, a wife, a mother of a Man would break him down completely. Broken pride hurts a million times than a broken bone.
Women were raped en-mass during communal riots that followed partition. Muslim women by Hindus, Sikh women by Muslims…
Aruna Shanbaug case which stirred the debate over Euthanasia illustrates the point. Sohanlal, a ward-boy, who intensely resented at being pulled up for his misdemeanors and being dictated by her – raped her in revenge.
A man raped his own 3 year old daughter who was discovered bleeding by her elder 5 year old sister in her father’s bedroom. The story goes like this : The couple fought over something and wife left home with her 7 year old daughter and left the 5 year old and 3 year old with their father. Father didn’t want to take responsibility of them and wished the wife takes them with her too. He assumed if he rapes one of them, his wife will definitely not leave them with him again. Conclusion, it was not an act of sexual gratification but a lesson for the wife.
Digital rape of a 3 month old girl by her own father is by no means under the category of sexual gratification. The man later confessed he did it so that his wife divorces him.
The Muktar Mai rape story too is much in coherence with the theme. It was intended as a punishment for the conduct of her 14-year-old brother, Abdul Shaqoor and as a restoration of honour to a 21-year-old woman, Salma Bibi with whom Shaqoor was earlier allegedly seen with. Salma was from a politically powerful higher caste tribe and the rape, the Jirga Tribal Council adjudicated, was justice their style, an eye for an eye.

Beside all this trauma, there is lack of rape reported to police because it is a bigger trauma. Most of the rapes in the country get unnoticed and unreported.

This also explains the mass rapes in Gujarat in 2002. The Kar Sevaks and Hindutvadis were seeking revenge for what the Muslims did in Godhra, the pious fighters of Ram weren’t out there for sexual gratification. They were only teaching the terrorists a lesson they will never forget.

You have presented just one aspect of the act of sexual aggression. It’s an extremely oversimplified version. Moreover, the idea of man hurting women to “break the pride of some other man” shows an inherent patriarchal inclination, which is extremely objectionable!

RAPE…Definitely a weapon for both men and women. Men use it to shatter souls and ultimately take revenge. Women(though cases are few) use it to tarnish an innocent’s image and hence take some sort of revenge. It is definitely a deadly social assault weapon…
